Eneida Fernandes Assumes Role of World Bank Country Manager for Zimbabwe

HARARE, October 20, 2023 — In a significant development, Ms. Eneida Fernandes has officially assumed her role as the new World Bank Country Manager for Zimbabwe. Her appointment comes at a crucial time, as Zimbabwe grapples with arrears clearance and debt resolution efforts, making her responsibilities vital in advancing the nation’s economic prospects.

Ms. Fernandes is no stranger to the realm of international development, having joined the World Bank in 2008 and accrued over two decades of experience in development initiatives across Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Her most recent position as the Resident Representative for Cabo Verde showcased her capabilities and expertise, making her an ideal choice to lead the World Bank’s efforts in Zimbabwe.

In her new role, Ms. Fernandes has outlined a set of priorities that emphasize the need for effective leadership in World Bank’s operational programs and engagement in Zimbabwe. Notably, it also includes projects addressing the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the Zimbabwe Health Sector Development Support Project and Zimbabwe COVID-19 Emergency Response Project.

Additionally, advisory programs from the International Finance Corporation, such as the Zimbabwe Destination Development Program, form a crucial part of the country’s engagement with the World Bank.
