Banking on Africa’s Future’s (BOAF) Project to Gather 10 000 People Who Are Shining Stars in The Continent Gathers Momentum

Banking on Africa’s Future (BOAF) – 10 000 Points of Light, an 1873 Network project which is aimed as identifying and bringing together 10 000 people form the African continent who are shining examples in their respective fields is moving at a fast pace.

The Points of Light are individuals who are recognized for their great work in various communities and industries in a way that raises the continent’s flag high.

1873 Network is a member-based non-profit organization established in South Africa whose mandate is to provoke, inspire and ignite new and innovative ways of problem solving in Africa based on connected, equipped and forward leaning voluntary actors.

While commenting on the successes that has been registered so far in bringing Africa’s shining stars together, BOAF’s Projects Director, Mr Jagjit Singh said that as the number of people who are inducted is increasing, the light they are producing is also shining brighter.

He thanked all stakeholders that are committed to Africa’s glory for their participation in this noble cause.

“I am very excited about the uptake of this initiate by many people across different backgrounds and aspirations who just believe in the power of working together on a good common cause. I salute everyone who makes this journey possible and memorable.

It is fact that the rise of Africa is unstoppable and I am happy to be part of those people who are documenting and celebrating it so that future generations will get inspiration from what they will get to know about these who we are celebrating as Points of Light.” Mr Singh said.

A number of prominent people including Karate South Africa President, Mr Sonny Pillay have so far been honored for their exemplary and inspiring work which is making the African child to dream and act big in a continent that has been referred to as the Dark Continent for many years.

Tomorrow, the 18th of May 2021 will witness a historic mass induction of men and women are selflessly dedicated to pursue their dreams and yet at the same time being torch bearers in making the African continent’s light to illuminate the world.

The induction ceremony which is a collaborative initiative between BOAF, C2C and the Africa Heritage Society will be held at The ROYAL INDIA RESTAURANT located on No.2 Maude Street in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Some of the inductees who have made it to the 10 000 Points of Light – Hall of Fame are Business Management Consultant Ms. Janice Greaver, Legal Practioner Mr Edwin Banda and Dr. Ntseliseng Bohloko.

Ms. Greaver, a business management consultant, media personality, philanthropist and an entrepreneur was nominated as a shining light in recognition of her outstanding pursuit of excellence which helps to transform Africa into a prosperous and inclusive continent.

A strategic thinker who became a chess champion at the age of 10, Ms. Greaver is a business specialist with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance, a Bachelor of Commerce in Law and currently studying for a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics.

Dr. Ntseliseng Bohloko is a Pharmacist and an RSA Director for Mercy Foundation as well as the Ambassador of the same Foundation for Lesotho.

She is involved in community development as the resident Administrator for Mercy Foundation, a faith based initiative addressing food security/community development and preaching of the gospel irrespective of denomination.

Ms. Makhotso Michelle Maiko, Musician, Mr Bushan Dass, and veteran retired media practitioner as well as renowned author Mr. Fakir Hassen will also be honored on the same day.

Businessman and I.T Specialist, Mr Lovemore Chanengeta together with eduSYMS will be inducted on Sunday, the 23rd of May 2021.

Michelle is the founder of the African Abroad Network, a non-profit organization that recognizes young Africans as forerunners of global citizenship and helps to facilitate their economic mobility through skills development, mentorship and professional socialization.

Its long term goal is to become a fully-fledged incubator to African youth-led start-ups that create employment and spur economic growth.

Africa Heritage Society Chairman, Mr Mutumwa Mawere said that all the inductees in the 10 000 Points of Light – Hall of Fame are celebrated for their constructive, positive, inspiring and forward leaning actions that is helping to shape and redefine the African continent.

Mr Mawere who is the author of the book When Minds Meet also added that the fact that many people are coming together for these events is a real sign of Africa’s awakening and highlighted that such is a reflection of the fact that great things can be achieved when minds meet to do the right things.
