Sermon Notes

God did not put you on Earth just to live for yourself. He wants you to make the world a better place.

Every time I hear somebody say, “I live for the weekends,” I want to say to them, “Then why should God keep you alive if you are not fulfilling your purpose in life?’’ you are missing the whole point of life.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “God has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus, and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives helping others.”

The word from the ministry is:

Although every Christian is a minister, not every Christian is a pastor, therefore every Christian must be groomed to be a minister. This means you use your talents and gifts to make a contribution in life, you need to be a giver, not a taker.

The Bible uses these kinds of phrases 58 times:

“Love one another.” “Care for one another.” “Pray for one another.” “Encourage one another.” “Help one another.” “Counsel one another.” “Support one another.”

The list is endless. It is the mutual ministry of every believer in the family of God to every other

believer in the family of God. That’s the way God meant for it to be.

The truth is, serving God by serving others is not always easy. Sometimes you are going to get discouraged. What do you do when you start to get discouraged? You remember the two things below;

Firstly, you remember that you’re going to receive an eternal reward. The Bible says in Hebrews 6:10, “God will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers.” You’re going to be rewarded in heaven.

Secondly, you remember that God uses every little thing, nothing is insignificant when you serve God. None of it is in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 says, “Keep busy always in your work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord’s service is ever useless”

How to Serve God Out of Delight

“Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves.” Romans 12:3 (NLT)

1. Listen to your heart.

That sounds like pop culture fodder, but the Bible says that’s what God wants you to do. He wants you to look at what you’re made to do, in order to know what he wants you to do. Most people these days are moving so fast that they don’t even have time to listen to their hearts anymore.

People all over the world are speeding along with no direction. They are in such a hurry, stressed with too much to do and they will not realize until it’s too late that they didn’t have to do so much. This is not the plan God has for you. He wants you to slow down and listen to your heart. Romans 12:3 says, “Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves” (NLT).

I suggest you get alone with God and ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What do I love to do?
  2. What do I dream of doing?
  3. What fascinates me?
  4. What can I talk about, think about, and study all day without getting bored?
  5. Where have I been most effective in my life?

An 80-year-old woman wanted to be a small group host. That’s wonderful, an 80-year-old small group host! She said, “I just wish I learned years ago that we serve God out of our design, not out of duty.”

I wish everybody could learn that truth. That is what shapes your Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality and Experiences. You serve God out of your design and the way he shaped you. You serve God not out of duty, force, or guilt but because you love him. Because when you do what he wired you to do, it brings glory to him.

Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you’ve been given in other words, of what God put you on earth to do. Then serve God out of delight and gratitude. That’s the way to live.

I love you and I’m praying for you!
