Time: 8am – 11 am

Sermon Notes

2 Peter 3vs.18 – But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever.

Hebrews 5vs.11-14 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard of interpretation, seeing ye are become dull of hearing. For when by reason of the time ye ought to   be teachers, ye have need again that someone teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food. For every one that partakes of milk is without experience of the word of righteousness; for he is a babe. But solid food is for full-grown men, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil.

1 Corinthians 3vs.1-3   And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, as unto babes in Christ. I fed you with milk, not with meat; for ye were not yet able to bear it, nay, nay, not even now are ye able; for ye are yet carnal: for whereas, there is among you jealousy and strife, are ye not carnal, and do ye not walk after the manner of men?

WE ARE LIVING IN AN ERA OF KNOWLEDGE.

Believers need to have a relationship with the Lord through his Word. The greatest hindrance to our faith is a lack of knowledge in the word of God (scripture).

Hosea 4vs.6 My people perish because of a lack of knowledge.

It is so much more difficult to live an overcoming life without the knowledge of the sculptures.

Paul writes to the church of Colossae. Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray and make request for you, that ye may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

It is god’s will that every believer grows in grace and the knowledge of his Word. We must grow in (grace) and in knowledge.

GRACE, GOD’S RICHES AT CHRIST’S EXPENSE.

Grace is God’s Unmerited Favor. God’s Enabling Power.

It’s not enough to grow in knowledge and then there is no grace to support the knowledge. hence, we become carnal Christians.

Here’s some character qualities of a grace carrier.

A Grace carrier is someone that shines the light of Christ. Such a person is: patient, tolerant, kind, considerate, mature. someone that does not judge, condemn, criticize, quick tempered.

WE MUST GROW IN GRACE.

How can I improve my Bible knowledge?

1. Pray and ask the lord to give you a desire and a hunger for his Word.

Desire: Meaning something that you long for hunger: a craving for something (food)

Matthew 5/6 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

Matthew 5vs.6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

2. Make time to spend in reading the Bible.

It takes discipline to spend time in God’s word. So many Christians are believing everything they hear because they don’t know what the Word says.

The Bible says that in the last days even the elect will be deceived. It’s not possible to grow in the knowledge of god’s Word unless we spend time in his Word.

3.We need to move away from an emotional relationship to a Word-based relationship with ‘ our Lord.  Feeling and emotions comes and goes.

It’s not possible to grow in our knowledge and relationship with Jesus based on our feelings. Many times, what the Word says may be contrary to how we feel.

4. We must not allow other people’s opinion to stop us from growing in God.

When we grow in the Word, it may/would require us to do certain things in a certain way. Those who are carnal may become a hindrance to your walk with the Lord. We listen to what people say but we do what the word says.

How will growing in grace and in the knowledge of God’s Word benefit my walk with the Lord.

1. You develop the fruit of the Spirit.

This makes you a more loving and caring person. no longer self-centered, you reflect the nature of Christ. people attracted to you. you become a likeable person.

2. You become God’s solution to people’s needs. People are hurting and they are looking for someone to talk to. You become that person and people start to have confidence in you.

3 You are able to exercise your faith.

Romans 10vs.17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

like natural food is nourishment to our physical bodies the word of God is food to our souls.

I close by saying that growing in Grace and in the knowledge of God’s Word is not an option, it’s imperative. If we don’t grow, we remain babies in Christ and we become other people’s burden.
