[8:29 am, 28/03/2022] +27 74 353 6042: Statistical Bits After the Weekend By-Election: National Assembly

By Takasununguka Ziki

ZANU PF CYBER TEAM

Some people are being overshadowed by the recent political activities in the country, eclipsed by the National Assembly and Local Authority By-Elections to an extent that they think CCC won big and suddenly controls #ParlZim

Let this statistic sink:

National Assembly Size is 270 seats and of these, after the weekend poll, ZANU PF now has 181 seats, while the recently mutated CCC/MDC has 88 seats with 1 Independent Member in the Lower House.

In 2018, ZANU PF had 179 seats, the then MDC Alliance now having the same faces in the CCC, had 89 Seats with the NPF having 1 seat and 1 Independent Member making the final spot in the Lower House.

Our Analogy:

Of the 2018 tally, ZANU PF has snatched 2 former opposition seats, taking them to 181 from 179

Of the 2018 stats, the then main opposition, MDC Alliance had 89 Seats and have lost 2 seats they controlled in 2018, being lucky to have snatched Kwekwe Central that was previously held by the NPF, signalling the end of the presence of the NPF in #ParlZim. This statistical movement takes the main opposition, the CCC to 88 Seats

Of the 2018 statistics, #ParlZim had 1 Independent seat, and after the weekend By-Election, the same seat is in the hands of an Independent Member

Conclusion:
Make your conclusions!!!!

[8:36 am, 28/03/2022] +27 74 353 6042: Assuming the by election is over it is proper to critically look at the figures and give a simplified breakdown.

CCC has won its usual strongholds ie Urban areas winning 19/28 constituencies while Zanu PF has retained its 7 seats adding 2 previously won by the opposition to make 9/28.

In the 9 constituencies won by Zanu PF, the cumulative number of votes is 76 355 while in the same 9 constituencies won by Zanu PF, the CCC polled 24 307 giving a difference of 52 228 votes.

NB: This is from only 9 constituencies

The CCC won 19 constituencies with a cumulative vote number of 105 492 while Zanu PF in those 19 constituencies attained 51 864 giving a difference of 53 628 votes.

Note The stats are from 19 constituencies

In all the constituencies including CCC strongholds all votes casted for CCC are 129 799 (winning 19 constituencies) while is Zanu PF with a few stronghold constituencies polled 128 399 (winning 9 constituencies)

Conclusion

Zanu PF has done extremely well in a by election where majority of the constituencies belonged to the opposition in 2018.

Note: The stats are only from official House of Assembly results
