Sermon Notes:

God never meant for you to go through life on your own. He wants you to be part of his family the church. In fact, the church has been God’s plan from the very beginning.

Some people think of the church as a building, an institution, or an event you attend. The church isn’t any of those things. It’s a family you belong to. Maturity is when you live your life by your commitments, not by your feelings.

When you’re part of the church, two things are true of you: You’re committed to Jesus, and you’re committed to the people in your church family. The Bible says in 2 Corinthian 8:5, “First they gave themselves to the Lord; and then, by God’s will they gave themselves to us as well” (GNT).

You give yourself to the Lord, and then you give yourself to a group of people in God’s family. The first choice makes you a Christian. The second choice connects you with other believers. I’m not the church. You’re not the church. But together, we are the church the body of Christ.

What does it mean to be part of the body of Christ? The Bible says, “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:12 NLT).

To understand how the church operates, look at the way God designed your body. Your hand, nose, spleen, and liver are all parts of your body. They all have separate functions, but together they make up one physical body just like God’s church makes up one spiritual body.

That’s why you are such a necessary part of your church family. You can’t say, “My part my talents and abilities isn’t needed.”  There are no unnecessary parts. We are all dependent on each other, and each of us has a different role to play.

God’s intention “from the very beginning of time” is that we live our lives together in his family. “Blood is thicker than water” ” That’s true! But Grace is thicker than genetics.

Make a Commitment

Success in ministry is not about the size of the achievement but the level of your commitment to the talent you were given, and the increase that the Master has allowed. So no matter  how small your Achievement is present it to God with a big Heart By Rev MVK Kotu

“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24 ESV).

Biblical fellowship is being as committed to each other as we are to Jesus Christ. This is the kind of sacrificial love God expects you to show other believers — a willingness to love them in the same way Jesus loves you.

God expects us to be people of commitment. God is a God of commitment, is faithful to His word, and always delivers what He promises. In our culture, we have become used to making promises and not keeping them. We have learned to treat our word casually and lack of follow-through has become normal. If we, as Christians, are to imitate Jesus in all we do, fulfilling our commitments and promises is essential to our success.

Fulfill your promises—every one of them—and follow through in all your commitments. Be a woman of your word. This is a serious matter to God, and you must make the necessary changes to follow His example. Being a person of your word may be the only witness of Jesus some people will ever see.

Good relationships don’t happen by accident. They take cultivation, work, and a lot of time. That requires commitment!

I cannot count the number of times that my calling and I have felt like walking out of my calling, particularly in the early years. There were so many times I  thought, “This is not worth it. Maybe it is your marriage. We’re so different.  Maybe you are saying,  this marriage will never work.”

Don’t  walk out. Why? Because you both made a commitment. You both took a vow—“Till death do us part”—not just to each other but also to God. You are going to keep this commitment even if it kills us.There have been times in  my life that the only thing keeping me going is  commitment

My unsolicited advice  to married couples is  love or interest but simply the commitment you  made to God. I am so glad that I  did not give up my calling.  Your  wife  must be your best friend, and  imagine your  life without her.

The Bible says in Proverbs 18:24, “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (ESV).

Did you know that socializing can keep you from having deep relationships? You can be so busy networking, contacting, and making acquaintances that you never invest the time and energy and effort it takes to cultivate the deep, satisfying intimacy of a good friend or a good spouse.

It’s not wrong to have a lot of acquaintances, but they can keep you so busy that you don’t develop any vital, close relationships. You don’t need a lot of friends to make it in this world, but you do need a few good ones. Focus on quality, not quantity. Your acquaintances—your hundreds of Facebook “friends” and Instagram followers—aren’t necessarily going to be there when you need them. But the friends you are truly connected and committed to will be there.

Every important, close connection begins with a commitment. If you want to get beyond shallow, superficial relationships, you’ve got to be willing to stick with it.

Your Commitments Shape Your Life

“Since everything around us is going to melt away, what holy, godly lives we should be living!”

2 Peter 3:11 (TLB)

Your commitments shape your life more than anything else. Your commitments can develop you—or they can destroy you. But either way, they will define you. Three enemies that will weaken your ministry over time: Self-indulgence, bitterness, and carelessness. Strong people discipline their desires, restrain their reactions, and keep their commitments.

A great commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission will grow a great church.

The Bible says, “His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by sending Jesus Christ to die for us. And he did this because he wanted to!” (Ephesians 1:5 TLB)

Tell me what you’re committed to, and I’ll tell you what your life will look like in 20 years. You become whatever you’re committed to.

It’s around the idea of commitment where most people miss God’s purpose for their lives. Many people are afraid to commit to anything, so they just drift through life. Others make half-hearted commitments to competing values, which leads to frustration and mediocrity. Others make a full commitment to worldly goals, such as becoming wealthy or famous, and they end up disappointed and bitter.

Every choice has eternal consequences, so you need to choose wisely:“Since everything around us is going to melt away, what holy, godly lives we should be living!”(2 Peter 3:11 TLB).

The first wise decision you need to make is to follow Jesus. You don’t have to understand all the implications of that decision when you make it. You simply need to respond to his invitation and make a commitment to follow him.

Then, as you follow Jesus, commit to the things that build a holy, godly life. Christlikeness will come from making Christlike commitments.

 Ask Yourself these questions?

  • In what ways have you approached the church as a place you go instead of a place you belong?
  • How can you use your talents and abilities to love and care for other believers?
  • How does not using your unique talents and abilities have a negative effect on other believers?
  • Based on your commitments, what might people assume about you?
  • What keeps you from committing to things that will help you develop Christlikeness?
  • How can the urgency of 2 Peter 3:11 affect the way you make your commitments?

Many Thanks, I love you and I’m praying for you!
