Mr. J. J. Singh, a Director of the BOAF initiative said: “It is with great sadness and sorrow to announce the tragic death of one of Africa’s giant, Mr Sylla Mousa, a Guinean born, South African diamond trader, the founder and CEO of a Johannesburg-based Sylla Diamond International company.

He was fatally shot last night.

More news to follow. My deepest condolences go to his family and the entire BOAF family.

May his dear soul rest in enternal peace.”

Mr. Mutumwa Mawere, Chairman of BOAF, said: “When I got a message at 8:42pm yesterday from Mr Singh, I was not prepared for the news that followed especially after the death of another BOAF member, Mr. Xolani Kunene, who also was fatally shot. The last time, I spoke to Mr. Moussa was when he called me on Monday, 15 August 2022, to inform me of Mr. Kunene.

I had no idea that this was my last conversation with him.

This morning at 4:49am, Mr. Singh informed me of the death of this corporate African diamond merchant.

MHSRIEP.

Africa has lost a bank of wisdom on mining and it is fortunate that his story was documented in court records to allow future generations to learn not only that he chose South Africa as his base in order to expose the fallacy and bankruptcy that African actors who choose to live and work in SA are not all criminals but genuine soldiers of the idea that SA represents the best address to demonstrate that Africa’s better days are yet to come when the identity of its inhabitants is indivisible and diverse.

He died in SA and this fact alone is lesson to the people who because of a lack of shared understanding believe that Africa can be balkanized by tribe based solely on the birth place as a variable in determining belonging and identity.

I have lost a dear friend and a General in the fight to redefine and reshape the personality and character of an Africa that is possible and desirable.

His life and contribution to problem solving is exemplary and his permanent absence henceforth will be self-evident.

The untimely and tragic loss of his life to intentional and willful murder reminds us of what is missing in Africa to create a tolerant, caring and prosperous Africa.”
