ZIMBABWE 2023 – THE CONVERSATIONS THAT PROVOKE ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP – ZVISHAVANE NGEZI CONSTITUENCY – WHY SEEK TO BE AN MP IN A CHALLENGED AND DIVIDED SOCIETY

This morning, Professor Tichaona Mupasiri, was chatting with Mr. Tinashe Mpasiri, regarding the Zimbabwe promise and challenge, especially against the backdrop of the reality that there exists no shared understanding of why illiteracy is so pervasive among the persons who purport to be shapers of Zimbabwe, a dream, that died on the eve of independence.

One of the issues that came up eloquently from Mupasiri was that the issue of SMM Holdings Private Limited (SMM) and its demise remains a topical matter, albeit as a Mawere-centric dispute, yet the reality is that the use of public power with the knowledge and involvement of President Mnangagwa, to divest and deprive its shareholders and directors of its control and management had direct and disastrous consequences on not only direct employees but many other persons.

To date, no one has been held to account for the role of actors like Mnangagwa, Chinamasa, July Moyo, Jonathan Moyo, Webster Shamu, Manikai, Gwaradzimba, etc in orchestrating this coup that resulted in state power being used to hijack the control and management of the company and vesting it in an organ of the state.

This happened in September 2004 and since then, the public has not been privileged even by Mnangagwa who in an affidavit that he deposed to in judicial proceedings that were launched by Mupasiri, admitted that he was fully briefed on the affairs of SMM yet at the material time, he occupied a cabinet position that did not legally permit him to be involved directly or indirectly in the affairs of a private company.

Mr. Musevenzo inspired to be the next MP of the Ngezi Constituency located in Zvishavane contacted Mr. Mawere without any knowledge of the facts and outrage that ignited Mupasiri to take the next step of approaching the Constitutional Court led by Chief Justice Malaba with an application aimed at holding President Mnangagwa to account for his knowledge and involvement in relation to the attack on SMM and related companies.
