I belong to a WhatsApp group under the title INNOVATIVE MINDS in which 115 participants are privileged to access for free knowledge, ideas, insights and experiences to help understand and play a part in shaping and defining the character and personality of the Africa that as individual is and must be in order to efficiently and conveniently unleash the potential of 1.4 billion living and forward looking individuals.

A lot is taught in education systems and in informal settings about the role of leadership in determining group outcomes.

The darkness in Africa and the challenges in reducing the frontiers of poverty, unemployment and poverty are placed squarely on leadership deficiencies yet rarely is the definition of what is a leader interrogated to establish a shared understanding on this question.

Set out below is a conversation that I found intriguing and interesting enough to share:

[10/16, 5:56 AM] Eng Pritchard Paradzayi: Can u define Leadership and spell out key roles of a leader. Pamwe ndipo patiri kurasana mbichana
[10/16, 6:51 AM] mdmawere1: Good morning. What is a leader?
[10/16, 7:17 AM] Eng Pritchard Paradzayi: That’s what I asked in my post as well and u can enlighten👇
[10/16, 7:17 AM] Eng Pritchard Paradzayi: ☝
[10/16, 8:27 AM] mdmawere1: Thanks. I have been battling for a very long time with finding the true meaning of the idea commonly referred to as a leader.

I am glad that you have provided a reference that can be used to start a conversation on this construct.

It is state that a LEADER is A PERSON WHO LEADS OR COMPANDS A GROUP, ORGANIZATION OR COUNTRY as the absurdity is self-evident in the purported definition that you chose.

We learn from you through the borrowed definition that a leader is a PERSON and that this living, mortal, fallible, random, irrational and self-centered actor with 2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 legs and one mouth can possess the power to LEAD a group.

What is a group of humans? I know that a group of 10 oranges will never collapse into one orange and if this idea is absurd so is the lead that assuming the administrative right, authority, power to control the affairs of an artificial entity like a government, a creature of a constitution framed and given life to by humans to act as a vehicle to deliver a promise, implies that the person so vested with the borrowed powers defaults into a commander in chief of sovereign and thinking human actors is a fatally defective construct.

How can persons endowed by the creator with unalienable rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness surrender these right to an imgined human actor identified as some leader?

To lead is to know what the next second holds in store and how is this possible when logic, common sense and reason informs that all persons live in the present and walk on untrodden grounds to permit anyone to anticipate a journey or passage of time in order to lead non-objects called humans into an uncertain future of surprises including death.

History of human civilization has no evidence of any human being holding the position of a so-called leader being able to cheat death yet naivety permits the deification of such mortal humans.
