Ms. Pamela Dube, a resident of Johannesburg, South Africa, and also a member of the Banking on Africa’s Future (BOAF), a pilot project to aggregate, optimize, and accelerate or propel outcomes that ordinarily take time to fruition if executed in a fragmented and individualistic manner, was inducted into a pilot project aimed at building a diverse and inclusive community from which subscribed members can leverage on the value adds from the members to advance their personal goals.

Ms. Dube said: “I am excited to be a candle in 10,000 candles that all shine than be a solitary candle.

It is not an understatement that Africa is dark because all too often it is fashionable to squander time hallucinating and pointing fingers at others who are forward-leaning and actually invest today to a secure better life tomorrow without investigating why those who choose to work in networks of mutual benefit are always ahead of the curve.

It was in 2004 when I joined the Johannesburg office of the Master of the High Court with 19 other officials to start this office and as I look back as one of the pioneers, I am satisfied that I played my part in giving life to this baby that has grown to what it is today.

During my tenure as a public office bearer, I was exposed to all facets of insolvency including the administration of deceased estates, wills, and trusts.

I was privileged to supervise and head all sections of the Office/ Master.

Recognizing the pervasive illiteracy on financial matters, especially on what happens when companies are wound up and life ends, I started a public awareness and outreach program, whose aim was to expose corrupt practices by value actors in the chains.

It cannot be disputed that the office of the Master plays a critical and often ignored role of administering the affairs of dead natural and juristic persons and as such issues of fraud, murder, and theft of inheritance of children and women, especially those married in customary law are always omnipresent.

I am encouraged that an initiative like BOAF LAW exists that will allow me to add value to strengthening the capacity of vulnerable people to access justice in a professional and corrupt-free manner.

To this end, any community power-building initiative speaks to my spirit that knowledge holds a better promise towards building open, transparent, and accountable systems of governance.

Accordingly, I am happy to announce that effective yesterday, I am now part of the 10,000 torchbearers to ensure that the future of Africa’s more secure because of my little contributions.

We will be holding workshops to raise the bar on what the obligations of citizens are and should be in building societies that are characterized by the rule of law rather than the rule of man.

People simply need to know their rights otherwise the propensity to trample on people’s rights and freedoms is high especially in the communities that we live in.

Social media could have helped but it is not unusual for human beings to be silent on what matters.

I only wish that we had the Messis, Ronaldos, Serena Williams, Chris Rocks, and Wills Smiths in the world of legal literacy, then we would know the future of Africa is secure because as role models, they would provide flickers of hope so that others may lift the continent up by doing and not showing photos on platforms like Instagram.

I have nothing against social media, all I am saying is that we need to improve on the content so that we can improve literacy on civics.”
