Pretoria, 15 March 2025 – The Presidency has expressed regret over the expulsion of South Africa’s Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Ebrahim Rasool, urging all stakeholders to engage with the matter diplomatically. The expulsion, which has sent ripples through diplomatic circles, comes at a time when both nations have emphasized the importance of a strong and mutually beneficial relationship.

Reacting to the development, the interim chairman of The 1873 Network voiced deep concern, criticizing the move as counterproductive in an era where global cooperation is crucial.
“At a time when we ought to be building bridges to unite on solving the global human problems we face, we find the U.S. erecting walls,” he stated. “Our philosophy as members of The 1873 Network is premised on creating a borderless mindset. Actions such as these undermine the spirit of international collaboration and set a troubling precedent for diplomatic engagement.”
The South African government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strong bilateral ties with the U.S., emphasizing the need for dialogue and constructive engagement. The expulsion has raised concerns about potential diplomatic tensions and the broader implications for international relations between the two countries.
While Washington has yet to publicly comment on the reasons behind the decision, analysts speculate that recent geopolitical dynamics may have influenced the move. However, voices like The 1873 Network continue to call for diplomacy, urging world leaders to prioritize unity over division.
As the situation unfolds, both nations will be closely watched for how they navigate this diplomatic challenge.
Over the years, I have found it challenging to define myself solely by an academic qualification, trade, or occupation. My eagerness to learn, especially about how to build and deploy capital, has allowed me to accumulate diverse experiences in a short span of time. Through this journey, I have discovered that at my core, I am a storyteller. I tell the stories of corporations, their heritage, and the individuals who act in their name. I explore the role of these institutions in fulfilling the promise of a better Africa, and, most importantly, the causal link between the rule of law and economic development. As a fellow believer in Africa’s potential, can I count on you to be a point of light in securing our continent’s future?
