South Africa’s G20 Presidency: A Platform for Global Solidarity
“This is a momentous year for South Africa,” President Ramaphosa declared. “Through our G20 Presidency, we will demonstrate our unwavering commitment to global solidarity, equality, and sustainability.” He highlighted South Africa’s intent to amplify marginalized voices and advocate for solutions prioritizing the well-being of the most vulnerable.

Drawing on the nation’s tradition of dialogue and cooperation, he added, “We have a tradition of working together to overcome even the most intractable problems. It is this ethos we bring to the G20.”

Economic Reforms and National Unity: Pillars of Transformation
President Ramaphosa reflected on the bold economic reforms implemented to revive South Africa’s economy following years of stagnant growth, state capture, and the COVID-19 pandemic. “These reforms are laying a firm foundation for sustained and accelerated growth into the future,” he said, pointing to the structural transformation sharpening the country’s competitive edge.

The President also hailed the establishment of the Government of National Unity after the May 2024 elections, describing it as a testament to the commitment of political leaders to stability and progress. “Surveys have shown that South Africans have confidence in the Government of National Unity to take the country forward,” he noted, adding that this has boosted business and investor confidence.

Public-Private Partnerships Driving Inclusive Growth
Highlighting the strategic collaboration between government and business, President Ramaphosa shared examples of initiatives addressing critical challenges such as energy security, infrastructure development, crime, and corruption. These partnerships, he said, are driving inclusive growth and transformation, reinforcing South Africa’s resilience and potential as a global leader.

A Call to Action
Closing his address, President Ramaphosa invited the global community to join South Africa in building a just and equitable world. “Ubuntu calls on us to see each other, to uplift one another, and to act with compassion and purpose,” he said. “Together, we can turn ambition into action and vision into reality.”

South Africa Night celebrated not only the country’s achievements but also the values and partnerships that enable progress. The evening, marked by the richness of South African culture, left guests inspired to collaborate in shaping a brighter, more inclusive future.

Over the years, I have found it challenging to define myself solely by an academic qualification, trade, or occupation. My eagerness to learn, especially about how to build and deploy capital, has allowed me to accumulate diverse experiences in a short span of time. Through this journey, I have discovered that at my core, I am a storyteller. I tell the stories of corporations, their heritage, and the individuals who act in their name. I explore the role of these institutions in fulfilling the promise of a better Africa, and, most importantly, the causal link between the rule of law and economic development. As a fellow believer in Africa’s potential, can I count on you to be a point of light in securing our continent’s future?
