President Ramaphosa Engages with Deputy President of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan in Efforts to Resolve Conflict

President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa held a productive meeting yesterday with Mr. Malik Agar Eyre Nganyoufa, the Deputy President of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan. The discussions centered on recent events in Sudan and international efforts aimed at bringing an end to the ongoing conflict and violence.

The meeting between President Ramaphosa and Mr. Nganyoufa was a follow-up to their telephone conversation on July 2, 2023. During the discussion, Mr. Nganyoufa provided a comprehensive briefing on the current conflict in the Republic of Sudan.

President Ramaphosa expressed South Africa’s deep concern about the prolonged nature of the conflict between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. He urged the Transitional Sovereign Council, along with the Sudan Armed Forces, to urgently work towards a peaceful resolution in Sudan.

South Africa firmly believes that lasting peace for Sudan and its people can be achieved through an inclusive dialogue process. President Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of respecting the commitments made by all parties to the Juba Peace Agreement (JPA), which was signed on October 3, 2020.
