Windhoek, Namibia – 01 March 2025
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Windhoek, Namibia, this morning to attend the state funeral of former Namibian President Dr. Samuel Shafishuna Nujoma. President Ramaphosa joins the Nujoma family, Namibian citizens, and global leaders in paying tribute to the revered statesman, who passed away on 11 February 2025 at the age of 95 while receiving medical care in Windhoek.

Dr. Nujoma, a pivotal figure in Namibia’s liberation struggle, was instrumental in the country’s journey to independence. He was the founding member and first president of the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) in 1960, leading Namibia to freedom from colonial rule. His legacy as the nation’s first democratically elected president remains deeply embedded in Namibia’s history.
On behalf of South Africa, President Ramaphosa extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Namibia, acknowledging the deep historical ties between the two nations.
“South Africa and Namibia share a bond forged in the struggle against colonialism and apartheid. Our relations, formalized in March 1990, remain strong due to our shared history and commitment to progress,” said President Ramaphosa.
The state funeral is expected to be attended by several Heads of State and dignitaries from across the continent, reflecting Dr. Nujoma’s enduring impact on African liberation and unity.
Over the years, I have found it challenging to define myself solely by an academic qualification, trade, or occupation. My eagerness to learn, especially about how to build and deploy capital, has allowed me to accumulate diverse experiences in a short span of time. Through this journey, I have discovered that at my core, I am a storyteller. I tell the stories of corporations, their heritage, and the individuals who act in their name. I explore the role of these institutions in fulfilling the promise of a better Africa, and, most importantly, the causal link between the rule of law and economic development. As a fellow believer in Africa’s potential, can I count on you to be a point of light in securing our continent’s future?
