Beyond Business: Why Holistic Wellness Requires Collaboration

Rethinking What Wellness Means

Wellness is often approached as an individual responsibility. We are encouraged to exercise more, eat better, manage stress and make healthier choices. Yet achieving lasting well-being also depends on access to knowledge, supportive communities and practical resources that help people make sustainable changes.

This was the thinking behind the Holistic Wellness Day, an initiative that brought together businesses and wellness practitioners to promote healthier lifestyles through financial education, physical activity, mindfulness and community engagement.

As the Founder of SHE FITS, a women-focused activewear and wellness brand, participating in this initiative offered an opportunity to contribute to a broader conversation about wellness and the importance of creating environments where people feel supported in their journeys towards healthier living.

It also reinforced a belief I hold as an entrepreneur: businesses can create greater value when they collaborate around a shared purpose.

Businesses and wellness practitioners came together for the Holistic Wellness Day, highlighting the value of a collaborative approach to community well-being.

Wellness Beyond Physical Health

One of the strengths of a holistic approach to wellness is its recognition that well-being extends beyond physical fitness.

Financial stress for example can affect a person’s peace of mind and overall quality of life. Similarly, neglecting physical activity, emotional well-being or opportunities for meaningful social connection can make it more difficult to maintain a balanced lifestyle.

The Holistic Wellness Day brought together different areas of expertise to address these interconnected needs.

Mboma Financial Services, founded by Nonjabulo Sikhakhane, led the initiative and facilitated the financial wellness component. Its focus on financial literacy and practical money management highlighted the importance of developing healthy financial habits and building long-term financial confidence.

Yoga with Shatadi, founded by Shatadi Madikgoadi, contributed a mind-and-body wellness session incorporating yoga, mindful movement, breathing and relaxation.

Ting Tang Tea, founded by Zanda Isaacs, brought a natural wellness perspective through a session exploring herbal teas and their place in everyday routines.

Together, these participating businesses illustrated how different disciplines can contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of wellness.

Healthy Tea,Financial education, mindful movement and everyday wellness practices formed part of the event’s holistic approach.

SHE FITS: Creating Space for Women to Move, Belong and Become

For SHE FITS, the event connected directly with the purpose behind the brand.

SHE FITS was founded on the belief that women deserve to feel confident in their bodies and supported in their wellness journeys. Through its focus on movement, confidence and community, the brand seeks to encourage women to approach wellness as a sustainable lifestyle rather than a temporary goal.

Our participation as a collaborating partner also created an opportunity to introduce SHE FITS to attendees, engage with the community and share the vision behind the business.

For me, entrepreneurship is not simply about selling a product. It is about understanding the people a business serves, identifying their needs and developing solutions that create value.

In the wellness space, that means recognising that people have different starting points, circumstances and goals. A supportive environment can make the difference between someone feeling excluded from wellness and feeling empowered to begin.

Isabela Pereira, Founder of SHE FITS, represented the brand at the Holistic Wellness Day, connecting its mission of movement, confidence and community with a wider wellness initiative.

The Power of Businesses Working Together

For small businesses and emerging entrepreneurs, collaboration can create opportunities that may be difficult to achieve independently.

Each participating organisation brought its own expertise, audience and perspective. By combining these strengths, the initiative could introduce attendees to several dimensions of wellness within one shared experience.

This model also offers a useful lesson for entrepreneurship more broadly.

Businesses do not always need to compete for attention or operate in isolation. Where their missions align, partnerships can help them reach new audiences, exchange knowledge and contribute to a common goal.

However, effective collaboration requires more than bringing different organisations together. It depends on shared objectives, clear responsibilities and a genuine commitment to delivering value to the people being served.

For entrepreneurs looking to grow their businesses while contributing to their communities, purpose-driven partnerships can become an important part of that journey.

Building Healthier Communities, One Connection at a Time

My involvement in the Holistic Wellness Day reinforced the importance of seeing entrepreneurship as part of a wider community ecosystem.

A business can have a commercial purpose while also contributing to education, empowerment and positive social change. These goals do not have to exist separately.

As SHE FITS continues to develop its vision for women’s wellness and community, experiences like this encourage us to remain focused on the people behind the brand and the impact we hope to create.

Ultimately, wellness should not feel like a privilege reserved for a few. It should be approached as an ongoing journey supported by knowledge, community and opportunities to make healthier choices.

When businesses come together with a shared purpose, they can help make that journey more accessible.
