South Africa will host the BRICS Future Skills Challenge in September 2023, a skills competition for young people from the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). The challenge will take place over four days at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg, and will focus on 12 emerging and future skills areas, including aircraft maintenance, Agri IoT, Building Information Modelling, Cyber Security, Data Science, Digital Twin, Drone Technologies, Internet Marketing, Manufacturing Robotics, Mobile App Development, Renewable Energy and Robotic Process Automation.

The challenge is open to young people aged between 18 and 35, and will be a great opportunity for them to showcase their skills and expertise, network with industry leaders, and learn from the best in the field. The winners will receive cash prizes, scholarships, and job opportunities.
“This challenge is a crucial step towards ensuring that young people in the BRICS countries have the skills they need to succeed in the digital economy,” said Mapule Ncanywa, Chairperson of the BRICS Business Council Skills Group. “We are excited to see the innovative solutions that the participants come up with, and we are confident that this challenge will help to shape the future of the BRICS economies.”
Ms. Makgosto Lebajoa, CEO of Imperial Key Africa, an advanced Startup paving the way to the future, said that the BRICS Future Skills Challenge is a great opportunity for young people to learn and gain experience in emerging technologies.

“We are excited of this great initiative and we believe that it will play a vital role in upskilling and reskilling the youth in the BRICS countries,” said Lebajoa. “The upcoming summit is a crucial step towards accelerating the value that can be delivered by SME’s when they absorb a young workforce equipped with skills that help deliver solutions to complex problems.”
The BRICS Future Skills Challenge is supported by the Department of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and the BRICS Business Council Skills Group. More information about the challenge can be found on the website: www.bricsfutureskills.co.za

Over the years, I have found it challenging to define myself solely by an academic qualification, trade, or occupation. My eagerness to learn, especially about how to build and deploy capital, has allowed me to accumulate diverse experiences in a short span of time. Through this journey, I have discovered that at my core, I am a storyteller. I tell the stories of corporations, their heritage, and the individuals who act in their name. I explore the role of these institutions in fulfilling the promise of a better Africa, and, most importantly, the causal link between the rule of law and economic development. As a fellow believer in Africa’s potential, can I count on you to be a point of light in securing our continent’s future?
