President Ramaphosa Holds Fruitful Talks with President Museveni During Official Visit to Uganda

In an official visit spanning from April 15th to 16th, His Excellency Mr. Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, engaged in substantive discussions with His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda. The visit underscored the commitment of both nations to bolstering bilateral relations and addressing pertinent regional and continental issues.

President Ramaphosa was accompanied by Hon. Dr. Naledi Pandor, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, and Hon. Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, Minister in the Presidency. Their presence emphasized the significance of the visit and the importance attached to fostering cooperation between South Africa and Uganda.

During the meeting on April 16th, the two Heads of State delved into discussions on various topics of mutual interest, including regional peace and security. Of particular concern were the situations in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Both leaders reiterated their commitment to collaborating towards sustainable peace, stability, and economic development across the continent.

In addressing the challenges in South Sudan, President Ramaphosa and President Museveni urged all parties to expedite the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict (R-ARCSS). Additionally, they called for the creation of conducive conditions necessary for the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of democratic processes in fostering stability.

Concerning the DRC, the leaders expressed apprehension over the escalating security crisis in the eastern region. They voiced their support for initiatives such as the Luanda Process, Nairobi Process, and the deployment of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Mission in the DRC. These efforts are integral to the collective endeavor of achieving lasting peace and security in the region.

President Ramaphosa expressed gratitude to President Museveni for the warm reception and hospitality extended during the visit, further cementing the bonds of friendship between the two nations.

The official communiqué was issued at the conclusion of the visit, underscoring the commitment of both leaders to advancing shared objectives of peace, stability, and prosperity in Africa.
