We now live in a world full of smart gadgets which perform amazing tasks beyond the comprehension of many of us, and this has made our lives much easier as compared to the years gone by.

It’s now faster and more efficient to get goods from one place to another, and even to have a live chat with people who are far away as if you were in the same room with them.

Despite the proliferation of all these smart gadgets and so many other smart technologies which we are using today, the most important question that we need to ask ourselves is: are we also getting smarter as people or not?

Judging from the disturbing decisions that we are making and the ridiculous activities we engage ourselves in these days, it may be very concerning to note that, if we don’t quickly develop ourselves to be smart thinkers, we are getting dumber and dumber.

As such, in order to address this issue, I have thus developed a Smart Decision Toolkit called The Fundamental Congruence Checklist adapted from The Smart Decision Handbook.

This checklist helps us to be objective and open minded thinkers who make better decisions and take informed action about any issue under the sun.

The Fundamental Congruence Checklist is basically made up of a set of ten questions which helps you to process the information which you have about any subject in order for you to understand it better so that you can make informed decisions in life.

It is a multi-versatile decision making tool which can be used to gauge the relevance, effectiveness and impact of anything in life through answering the following ten questions:

  1. What is this thing? Who is this person?
  2. What does he/she/it do and how? – What are the key result areas or objectives and how are they accomplished?
  3. Why does he/she/it do so? – Why are those the key result areas, objective or purpose?
  4. What happens if he/she/it does do not anything or does not perform as expected?
  5. Where is this thing or person situated in the whole matrix – what position does he/she/it occupy?
  6. Why is he/she/it situated there? – Why is he/she/it occupying that space?
  7. What happens if he/she/it is completely removed, moved somewhere, misplaced or even altered?
  8. Who is in charge of him/her/it and why? – Who makes he/she/it work as planned?
  9. How is his/her/its effectiveness assessed? – How do I or other people know if he/she/it is effective or not?
  10. What happens if he/she/it is effective or not – What are the related consequences?

By using a Congruence Checklist, you will be able to clearly define the purpose and effectiveness of anything, and then determine its relevance and interconnectedness to other things which are dear to you in life before you commit your energy, time and resources to it.

When you don’t ask yourself these ten questions, you are most likely to make impulsive decisions out of emotions (excitement) and do things that are very costly and regrettable.

The ten questions in the Congruence Checklist gives you a broader perspective of anything you can think of when you want to make a decision on a certain matter.

Personally, I have already enjoyed doing some Congruence Checklists especially on business related topics, and therefore, I am inviting you to do your own checklist on any subject that you can think of, so that we can see how smart you can be.

I am also inviting interested parties to collaborate with me in coming up with a social media information portal which I have provisionally called ‘Doctor Congruence’ where everybody will be free to join and contribute their own Congruence Checklists.

This will provide the whole world with a pool of information which can help us to make quick smart decisions everyday towards a better, peaceful and prosperous world for us all.

For example, I have already come up with ten responses on each of the following questions:

  1. What is a customer?
  2. What is Customer Service?
  3. What is a Product?

Let us do a Congruence Checklist about a Customer based on our first question above so that you can better understand this concept:

Customer Congruence Checklist

  1. What is a customer?

A customer is any person or organisation with the desire and or means to buy your products (services) towards the satisfaction of their own needs and wants.

  • What does a customer do and how?

A customer buys your products and services or supports your cause through the use of an agreed medium of exchange in a conducive environment.

  • Why does a customer do so?

He/she helps you to achieve your goals through patronage in exchange for his/her satisfaction that comes from using your product or service.

  • What happens if a customer does not do so or does not do it in the right way?

If you don’t have customers, you will fail to accomplish your mission because of lack of revenue and cash flow.

  • Where is a customer situated in the matrix of your business operations?

A customer is the central or core feature of the mission or is the basis of your existence as an institution.

  • Why does a customer occupy such a position in our business operations?

We consider customers to be central to your mission or very important in the dynamics of your business because they are the hinge and pivot of all your operations. Customers occupy the VIP section.

  • What happens if we change a customer’s position/value or if it’s no longer prioritized?

When a Customer is no longer the central or focal point of your institution, you will lose patronage, revenue and relevance.

  • Who is in charge of customer relations in your organization and why is that so?

The entrepreneur is in charge of meeting the needs and wants of the Customer or Audience through delegation of duties and responsibilities to people in his team.

  • How is the effectiveness of your customer care assessed?

The correct treatment of your clients is seen through customer satisfaction, continued engagement and in the accomplishment of your set goals.

  1. What happens if your customer care approach is effective or not?

If Customers are seriously considered and valued in the affairs of your institution, it means that success is guaranteed, but if they are not given the attention they really deserve, it means that you are doomed to stumble and fail.

The way I have done this as shown above will act as guide for you to come up with your own Congruence Checklist on a subject of your choice.

For example, if you want to be in a romantic relationship or to get married, you can do a congruence checklist on what is a boyfriend/girlfriend or what is a husband/wife?

If you want to vote, you can do a Congruence Checklist on what is a President, what is a Member of Parliament, what is a Mayor etc.?

Based on some political instabilities across the world, you can do a congruence checklist on War or a Coup, while if you are more interested in technology, you can do a checklist on a subject such as Artificial Intelligence among others.

You can choose to do this alone or in the company of friends or family etc.

I know that you are smart and that you have been part of something bigger before, that is why I am saying, let us do it again. Let’s get smarter than our smart gadgets.
