“I am pleased to announce the induction of Dr. Helena Ndume, a Namibian Ophthalmologist, who has performed sight-restoring surgeries upon 35,000 Namibians, free of charge into the 10,000 Points of Light (POL) Africans one can bank on to define and shape the personality and character of a caring and forward-leaning continent.

In 2018, BBC 100 Women, Dr. Ndume was #66 on the alphabetical list of inspiring and influential women from around the world comprising 60 countries.

Imagine a day in the world of the blind to appreciate the difference Dr. Ndume has and continues to make in delivering the promise of sight.

Many of her patients now call her: “Namibia’s Miracle Doctor.”

The Banking on Africa’s Future (BOAF) initiative was inspired by pervasive illiteracy on the difference that people like Dr. Ndume to the lives of so many without seeking fame or popularity.

If one is losing sight, who should you bank on? If not Dr. Ndume, then who? We believe that by inducting Dr. Ndume, we will be provoked, inspired, and ignited to play a part in building the African brand equity that is often blurred by the reality of poverty, unemployment, and inequality.

Her contribution to humanity by using her skills is worthy of saluting. Life gives us space to solve problems and 35,000 individuals that have been impacted by Dr. Ndume speak volumes of what needs to be done to identify, showcase, celebrate and salute problem solvers like her.

Below are comments drawn from a post hosted by SEE International on the organization’s Linkedin page by people who commended her addition to the 100 global influential women:

Thank you, everyone, for your congratulatory wishes.
SEE International – Restoring Sight, Transforming Lives and I share the same goal: to end curable blindness.
My association with SEE International (SEE) dates back to 1997, when I met Dr. Harry S. Brown, the organization’s founder. Since then, SEE and I have collaborated to hold free week-long eye clinics in Namibia, typically twice a year. These clinics provide free eye surgeries for approximately 300 impoverished men, women and children. The SEE volunteer ophthalmologists who come every year to assist with the eye clinics in Namibia, such as D. Michael Colvard MD, have become my dear friends.
Thank you SEE for what you have done in my country. …see more
