Ms. Hilary Leong, the Co-Founder & Chairperson of ACTAFRICA as well as a paid up member of the BOAF – 10,000 POL initiative, SEXTORTION IS REAL AND ALIVE in SA
“Your personal social media accounts, keep your settings on private.
Do not accept follows or friend requests from unknown people.
Do not air your dirty laundry ( personal issues) on social media as you are rendering yourself vulnerable to perpetrators lurking social media platforms and they will exploit your vulnerabilities.
If you are unfortunately caught up in a situation of online trafficking/ sextortion, do no let the perpetrator know you not going to send naked pics etc. to them or meet their financial demands but even if you do let them know, remember you are not in the same place as them so you have the upper hand.
Immediately report what’s happening to law enforcement and if you are a minor to a trusted person (i.e. should ideally be your parents , teacher and importantly Childline which you can call on 116 and SAPS on 10111).“
