THE once outspoken former Manicaland Provincial Minister Mandi Chimene and the former Commissioner-General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police Augustine Chihuri have pleaded with Zanu Pf to forgive them in a letter addressed to the Zanu Pf Secretary for Administration Cde Obert Mpofu. The full letter reads….
1 December 2022
Open Letter to the Zanu PF Secretary for Administration Cde Obert Mpofu
On this day, 1 December 2022, we would like to regretfully apologies for our ill-advised actions that were in association with the G40 #NgwenaMustGo campaign dating back to 2017.
It is with grave regret and shame that we pen this letter to you, as we have seen the error of our ways.We would like to put it on public record that between June to November 2017, we aligned ourselves with the architects of the #NgwenaMustGo campaign that sought to falsely lay criminal charges against then Vice President now President Mnangagwa and some senior members of the Zanu Pf party who were said to be authors of the in house fighting under the so called Lacoste camp.
The instruction had been to hold an extensive smear campaign against select senior members of the the party using public speeches as well the press. For the record, none of the horrendous things we said about the sitting First Secretary and others were true.
To err is human, and we have seen the light. Having reflected on the events leading to November 2017 we seek to apologize to the presidium, the party and the nation at large. We therefore kindly request CDE Obert Mpofu Sir to accept our letter of apology and table it before the party and presidium. CDE Sir we also seek re-admittance into the party, a party that represents the people and has love for the people.
We would like to take this moment to distance ourselves from any and all anti government activities or agents. Having seen the letter by our counterparts Professor Moyo and Mr Zhuwawo, the conviction to pen an apology has become more compelling and we would like to make it known that we do not write this under any persuasions or durance but profound regret.
Having said everything, our participation in the unjustified #NgwenaMustGo campaign was ill-advised and unjustified , hence Cde Obert Mpofu Sir, please find it in your heart to forgive us. Thank you.
Yours Comradely,
Augustine Chihuri
