2021 MEMBERSHIP TO THE C2C – BANKING ON AFRICA’S FUTURE (BOAF) – 10,000 POINTS OF LIGHT (POL) – MR PHARAOH CHIMUNOKO

JOHANNESBURG (9 February, 2021) – Mr. Mutumwa Mawere, Chairman of the Africa Heritage Society (AHS) and the 1873 Network, and Mr. Brian Kazungu, the Editor of iniAFRICA News, announce today that Mr. Pharaoh Chimunoko, an active member of the C2C Own A Radio Station for R500 (C2COARS4R500) has been inducted into the Bank of Africa’s Future (BOAF) – 1000 Points of Light (POL).

BOAF is an initiative of the 1873 Network founded on the need to build an inventory of thinkers who stand out as original and organic actors in applying critical thinking to problem solving.

The 10000 POL is a pilot program to build a bank of 10 000 names of actors who through playing their parts help reposition the African brand as value adding.”

The C2C-BOAF-ST-0003 inductee, Mr Chimunoko said, ‘I am excited to be part of this noble building of community power project. I believe that no problem is bigger than a circle of human beings that choose to focus on it.

The problem is illiteracy, which when properly construed is a consequence of inactive citizenship.

I have had the privilege of looking at the legal and constitutional issues that are inherent in relation to the establishment and appointment of the Zondo Commission and I have shared my insights, albeit in a closed WhatsApp group.

As such, I believe that it is critical that we form ourselves into a circle to drill deeper into the promise and challenges of instituting a culture that respects the rule of law using our own home grown case studies.

Public trust and confidence in relation to organs of our government is work in progress and requires all of us to put our hand on deck.

I thought the concerns raised by President Zuma on his apprehensions regarding the independence and impartiality of Justice Zondo was self-serving and opportunistic until I read a judgment shared to C2C members.

As I read the Justice Willis judgment, I was reminded of the apartheid era where rule by law was the norm and the judiciary was complicit in giving life to a system founded on a morality that is repugnant to the rule of law, by the manner in which this landmark case was adjudicated.

Notwithstanding the limitations imposed by international law and the comity of sovereign nation-states, I was baffled to note Justice Willis’  temperament and attitude in not only recognizing authority to litigate that was created by the operation of a law that is offensive to public policy. This law is not only draconian but is penal and confiscatory.

The law was specifically preceded by a decree that was promulgated using state of emergency powers by the late President Mugabe that permitted the Minister to issue an extra-judicial order that permitted the right to control and direct a company from its directors without any judicial involvement and substitute the board with his appointee.

The mere fact that a company whose control and direction by an act of a foreign state was recognized and enforced in South Africa has given credence to the allegation by President Zuma and others that the promise of justice in South Africa is a mere illusion.

In this case, it is common cause that instead of the courts being the guardian of justice, the Court was transformed into a theatre of injustice.

Prophet Bushiri is one person like Zuma who is apprehensive that the promise of justice will be honored in the four corners of any South African court.

I am encouraged that through the vehicle of C2C, we can individually and as a community pursue the ideal of creating a society in which countries like Zimbabwe where laws that pose so grave a risk of undermining the rule of law can be exposed.

I am enlightened now to play my part in building an Africa where criminality using public power can be minimized,” said Chimunoko..

Mr. Mawere, the Chairman of the 10000 POL initiative that is being powered by the C2C initiative said: “I have been following Chimunoko’s rich and deep insights on number of issues of importance.

His mind and perspectives when shared widely will help improve bridge the acknowledged gaps in critical thinking of public policy matters.

There are many people who have read the letter written by Ms. Janice Greaver, a member of C2C, to the Deputy Judge President of the Johannesburg-based court, Mr. Mojapelo, who have not been able to identify the seriousness of the precedent in the Justice Willis’ judgment.

This judgment makes South Africa a tolerant forum for rogue foreign states to assert and enforce rights acquired through the abuse of public power.

Chimunoko’s place in this prestigious circle of thinkers and problem solvers in Africa is secure.

I was talking to him earlier about the urgency and need to use storytelling to provoke, ignite and inspire active participation by all who care to know and act better as African citizens.”

C2C is a platform to connect, equip and inspire positive change based on informed choices. Mawere reiterated.
