JOHANNESBURG (MAY 22, 2020) – Mr. Jagjit Singh, the Chairman of the Banking on Africa’s Future (BOAF) – 10,000 Points of Light (POL) Hall of Fame Initiative announced today that Mr. Gordon Franks, Guitar Maestro & Entertainer Extraordinaire, has been elected to the 10,000 POL Hall of Fame Honoured Membership, in the music, entertainment and motivation Categories.

Mr. Franks will be inducted tomorrow, 23 May 2021, at the Royal India Restaurant located in Sandton, into the 10,000 Points of Life (POL) for his lifetime contribution to the music industry and for helping define and shape the character and personality of Africa’s brand as an address of world class music content.

Gordon had humble beginnings growing up in the heart of Chatsworth, Durban, where music was heard from pathways to street corners and this is how the sound of a guitar gripped his attention.

A burning desire for the guitar stimulated in him an interest to make his own guitar out of an oil gallon, stringing six pieces of Nylon (Guts) fixed onto a nailed piece of wood as the fret board.

Years later after a trip to the United States, his life changed as he got a chance to be mentored by the legendary George Benson and later on, he became Nelson Mandela’s preferred Master of Ceremonies.

In celebrating the legendary musician’s nomination into the Hall of Fame, Africa Heitage Society, Chairman, Mr. Mawere said: “Mr. Franks’ entry into this bank of Africa’s hope will help to provoke others to follow his journey.

The Africa that is desirable and ideal should be a stage where talent can be nurtured to deliver outcomes in which content and value addition are the only variables that distinguish human actors.

Africa is an idea and its brand lies in the thoughts, creativity and actions of its inhabitants.

Mr. Franks has entertained thousands in his life and by so doing, through his music, he has inspired many people to believe that Africa without borders is not a pipe dream.

Music holds the power to unite and not divide. It is a gift that cannot be purchased in any cash and carry. Those who have it, must use it as a bridge builder.”

Anonther BOAF member, Mr. Frederick Koomson expressed excitement on Mr Frank’s induction tomorrow saying: “As a music producer and sound engineer, the induction of Mr. Franks is critical and defining especially during this disrupted era in the history of human civilization.

His deposit in this bank of candles will help in starting conversations on what the post Covid -19 architecture of music as an industry should be. No one has a crystal clear picture on what the future is and should be, but building a community of affected actors on the supply side can never be a bad thing.

I am honored to be part of Mr. Franks’ new ecosystem, and I hope we will shine better and sharper in the Hall of Famers with his addition.”

While commenting on his recognition by the Banking on Africa’s Future, Mr. Franks said: “I am humbled by this honor, not just to me but to all the unsung heroes who have helped to define the industry’s character.

I have and continue to play my part in adding my own unique personality in building the Africa I want to see. This project allows me to be part of the change I want to see in Africa. I am fired up and tomorrow I will definitely perform at The Royal India Restaurant.

Just the fact that this month of May is also known as Africa Month, I am grateful that it will be part of our history that I was nominated in this month to celebrate the idea and ideal of building a united, prosperous, progressive Africa.” Franks said.
