Africa’s Cricket Legend, Mr. Cassim Suliman Honoured by the Banking on Africa’s Future for His Contributions to Sports through Induction Into The 10 000 Points of Light – Hall of Fame

JOHANNESBURG (MAY 22, 2020) – Mr. Jagjit Singh, the Chairman of Banking on Africa’s Future (BOAF) – 10,000 Points of Light (POL) Hall of Fame Initiative announced today that Mr. Cassim Suliman, has been elected to the 10,000 POL – Hall of Fame – Honoured Membership, in the Sports category for his contribution to the game of cricket.

The Lakefield resident, who is the current CEO of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA), Mr. Suliman, popularly known as, Mr. Cricket, will be inducted tomorrow, the 23rd of May 2021, into the 10,000 Points of Life – Hall of Fame for his sporting excellence in Africa and beyond.

Although he was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Mr. Suliman got his first taste of cricket at the Orient Islamic School in Durban and after period, he became heavily involved in Cricket Administration.

June 1991, marked the end of the the enforced racial separation in cricket and this resulted in the merger of the South African Cricket Union and the South African Cricket Board to form the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCB) of Mr. Suliman was among the delegates on this noble cause.

He later on went to become the chairperson of the Actonville Spurs Cricket Club and between 1991 to 1992, he became the first Public Relations Officer for the Eastern Transvaal Cricket Association.

While commenting on his recognition, Mr. Suliman said: “I am humbled by this prestigious honor and believe that such a recognition will go a long way towards raising awareness of the historical and future role of this sport in uniting Africans as one indivisible community of human actors on the stage of life.”

The Cricket legend, Mr. Suliman was at one time the president/chairperson of the Easterns Cricket Union, as well as a board member of Cricket South Africa and during his time as president, he merged Easterns and Northerns to form a franchise called, The Titans.

He was the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Easterns cricket in 2009 and 2012 respectively. After his resignation, he went on to become the Chief Executive Officer of ACA, an organization representing 33 African national cricket associations.

Mr. Frederick Koomson, a member of BOAF MEDIA network said: “It is exciting to have luminaries and icons of the Sports fraternity being part of this noble initiative since it provokes, ignites and inspires active citizenship.

Mr. Suliman’s illustrious career both as a player and administrator is a source of inspiration since the history of Cricket in South Africa will never be complete without mentioning his deeds. I personally look forward to meet him in person tomorrow night.

At this defining hour in the history of human civilization, we are hosting this event to inspire hope that the future will always be brighter than today. Building community power to solve problems is and will always be the most efficient and least cost.” Mr. Koomson added.
